Long before Cam Smith stepped onto a Major League field, there was a mom behind the dream.

Cam was raised in Florida by his single mother, Stephanie Hocza, who worked, sacrificed, drove him to practices and games, and kept believing in him, even when success was far from guaranteed. Cam has said she somehow made difficult times manageable, letting him focus on being a kid and continuing to pursue the game he loved.

When Cam earned a spot on the Houston Astros’ Opening Day roster in 2025, his mom was there to surprise him with the news. Their emotional embrace captured something much bigger than baseball: a son reaching his dream alongside the mother who had sacrificed so much to help him get there.

Turning Gratitude Into Impact

The Cam Smith Foundation grew out of that story.

Cam understands firsthand the strength, sacrifice, and determination it can take to raise a family as a single mother. He also understands what it means for a child to have someone who continually shows up, believes in their potential, and creates opportunities that might otherwise feel out of reach.

Now, he wants to help create those opportunities for other families.

Through meaningful experiences, mentorship, community partnerships, and direct support, the Cam Smith Foundation uplifts single mothers and their children, helping moms feel supported while giving kids more opportunities to dream bigger.
